The James

Address

89-113 Kent St, Millers Point NSW 2000

Named in honour of Sir James Langham, The James is a deliberate bridge between the legacy of The Langham and a bold new chapter of Sydney dining.

The design draws from classic English dining rooms - Victorian detailing, traditional joinery and heritage cues - reworked through a contemporary lens. The Langham’s signature pink appears in restrained gestures, layered into a richer British palette of burgundy, forest and tobacco.

A custom inverted motif runs throughout as a contemporary crest, etched into timber, embossed on menus and woven into upholstery, reinforcing a reinterpretation of heritage that feels confident rather than nostalgic.

Furniture references Victorian dining rituals - deeply upholstered banquettes and wicker chairs reminiscent of English garden settings - reimagined for comfort and sociability. At the entry, ninety-six traditional key cubbies subtly acknowledge the hotel’s ninety-six rooms, while mosaic inlays and bespoke ceramic lighting from the UK add texture and depth.

The result is a dining room grounded in history yet distinctly modern - layered, expressive and quietly theatrical in a way Sydney hasn’t quite seen before.
